"It Ends With Us"
This a title everyone whos reading this have come across time and again. A book by New York Times bestseller, Colleen Hoover.
My TikTok and my friend’s Instagram stories were all filled with this particular phrase. I raised my hand and decided to pick this book up finally. Honestly, I regret, regret not reading it sooner.
Lily is one of the kindest and bravest souls I have come across. Colleen depicts how a child is tremendously affected by her parents. The moment Lily decided to divorce Ryle to protect her daughter from going through what she had has all my heart. I love how Colleen portrays domestic violence and the struggles of women's going through the situations.
One in two women experiences some form of domestic violence. Though women’s empowerment has been spreading around, the problem hasn’t seemed to cease. The Western part of the world is progressing swiftly to bring it to an end. South-east of the world still has a long way to go. Many places still reek of poverty, unawareness and extreme gender discrimination.
Without a doubt, the dawn will finally break. Unfortunately, many women do not have the privilege to wait for it or fight for it, they can only pray for it.
Many moms stay for their children's sake. For a woman struggling to put her hands in her mouth, divorcing would stake her child's future. The education they are receiving would go down the drain for school fees would be unaffordable. It’s easy to speculate and judge those moms without knowing what they are going through.
I put myself in their sole and admire their patience and their courage. For I know, I could never and would never tolerate the behaviour. I see myself slamming the front door and dashing out of the house. I can not apprehend a mother's selfless nature.
This admiration towards all feminine and hatred towards our masculine counterparts should end. The perennial loop must end. Any form of domestic violence should end. Although I want to look at those women in their eyes and say,” I want to be you when I grow up”. I am painfully aware of why it ends with us and why it must end with us.
To all the warriors who fought those invisible wars and to those survivors, cheers! A new era, a new system of mutual respect. An era of children's growing up safely and an aeon of moms who takes their stand without fear is coming to dawn. For if something ends, something new begins. Lifeward is the law of the universe.
